History

Halstead’s commenced business in the early 1880’s and continued to trade until 1933. They rapidly gained a reputation for the high standard of their products and were the market leader of the period for fine quality juvenile roundabouts. This example was new in 1901 to Mr Albert Taylor of the Nottingham area. From  had twelve horses and two cars, as it is today. It was converted to a platform toy ride in the 30’s and travelled with the Taylors for almost 70 years.

The ride was restored in 1995 to an immaculate standard by the late Richard Darby. The original horses and cars were not found however as much as possible was saved or used as pattern. One wooden horse was carved and twelve fibreglass copies where taken. Pete tate was instructed to paint the ride and features some of his last gold leaf artwork. The pictures where painted by Mary-Anne and depict different farm animals.

We purchased the ride in January 2017 from Frosts garden centre, however a mixture of luck and being in the right place at the right time led us too it. Since arrival to our workshops, the ride has been thoroughly cleaned touched up and varnished, completed all independent inspections, had our name added to the rounding boards and a set of handrails to surround the perimeter of the ride.
